- As a culture club, TSA's main goal is connect those that share an interest in Taiwanese culture. During major holidays that are celebrated in Taiwan, we notify the club of them. Even though we don't celebrate most of them ourselves, it's something we strive to do in the future, as we ourselves are learning about the holidays/history of Taiwan along with everyone else.
Our impact within the Asian American community at UMBC is small since we don't have many events, nor do we advertise our club that often. However, we are part of a greater community within the DMV, where we often attend events with Johns Hopkins , Georgetown, and UMCP Taiwanese clubs. Their clubs, which are more established than ours, often host events like night markets, which are part of the Taiwanese culture. We attend these events to show support and that in itself is something that we feel like is helping the growth of Taiwanese culture in the DMV. Our goals within the next academic year is to hopefully host similar events in order to make sure TSA stays a culture interest club.
- I'm not really big on movies or TV shows so I'm not exactly sure how much representation Asian Americans get within the entertainment industry. However, from what I'm aware of, I believe they are under represented at the moment. Of course, I do know that Asian Americans have started to get some bigger roles than just commercials or YouTube videos, by appearing, or even starring in TV shows. However on YouTube, Asian Americans stand out, but that's just probably because I pay more notice to them.
